Genealogical Data

There is very little data available for this church. The list of deaths is a page from a church register. The births and marriages were published in a church newsletter and shared with StLGS. Hence, these are indexes only. As of 2017, we do not have this congregation’s permission to publish actual images online. However, this may change in the future.

History

Established in 1907; still open in 2017

In October 1907, the pastor of St. Johns Evangelical Church in Bellefontaine, Missouri, conducted the first service for this small congregation. They worshiped in a building that housed a store in Gumbo, Missouri. By December of that year, they had renamed themselves St. Thomas Evangelische Kirche of Gumbo.

A year later, the congregation laid the cornerstone for the church on donated land. They remained in that location for the next few decades.

In 1958, the congregation became St. Thomas United Church of Christ. They chose a site on Wild Horse Creek Road for a new building, which was dedicated in May 1969.
