Foundations of Genealogy, Part I  Instructor: Ilene Murray

Class Info.: Whether you are just beginning or you have been working on your family history for years, sometimes you just need to rethink your strategies. We’ll look at some ways to get organized and stay that way, review basic rules of genealogy, look at the importance of citing sources, and see how timelines can help guide your research.

Class Info.: (This class will be a follow-up to the first session, and, if possible, you are encouraged to sign up for both.) Most genealogists begin with census research, but then what? We’ll look more closely at how to analyze those census records, how to get the most from vital records, and repositories and Internet sites that can help you find what you need to do better research.

Intermediate Irish Research Instructors: Carol Hemmersmeier and Kay Weber

Class Info.: So what if most of the Irish census records have been destroyed? There are many records available to help you find that coveted townland as well as additional facts about your ancestors. (Please note: This class is intended for those who have done their American research and are ready to begin researching records in Ireland.)

Advanced RootsMagic Instructor: Ted Steele
Date: 24 March 2018 Day: Saturday

Class Info.: This class is for genealogists who already own and are familiar with the basic operations of RootsMagic, the popular genealogy software program for Windows PCs. The class will cover correcting errors, unlinking people, merging people or places, searching by fact type, and creating reports.

Meyers Gazetteer and Other Parish Finding Aids Instructor: Carol Whitton, CG
Date: 28 April 2018 Day: Saturday
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Session: 1
Class Info.: So much information is now available! The Meyers Gazetteer is now online in English, but do you know how to use it? Do you know if it covers Poland or other Germanic countries? Can you find your parish using it or will you still need other finding tools? Learn the answers to these questions and many more!
