Pre-registration is always necessary, as classes will be cancelled if minimum numbers aren’t met.

Either call 314-647-8547 or fill out the mail-in registration, if you are a member and wish to sign up for one of the free classes. If you are not a member, please fill out the mail-in registration form and return it with your tuition fee. There is no online registration for classes.

Beginning RootsMagic (PC)

Class Info.: Learn to create a RootsMagic database, add ancestors with sources and notes, and enter places consistently. Explore the various “data views” and see how to generate reports.

Intermediate RootsMagic (PC)

Class Info.: This class is for genealogists who already own and are familiar with the basic operations of RootsMagic and/or have taken the beginning RootsMagic class. Learn to correct errors, unlink people, merge people or places, search by fact type, and create reports.

Foundations of Genealogy, Part I Instructor: Ilene Murray

Class Info.: Whether you are just beginning or you have been working on your family history for years, sometimes you need to rethink your strategies. We’ll look at some ways to get organized and stay that way, review basic rules of genealogy and the importance of citing sources, and see how timelines can help guide your research.

Foundations of Genealogy, Part II

Class Info.: (This class is a follow-up to the first session, and, if possible, you are encouraged to sign up for both.) Most genealogists begin with census research, but then what? We’ll look more closely at how to analyze those census records, how to get the most from vital records, and repositories and Internet sites that can help you find what you need to do better research.

Legacy Family Tree 101 (PC) Instructor: Cathy Amen

Class Info.: This course is designed for beginners or those relatively new to Legacy Family Tree. Course content includes understanding the toolbar and personal options, documenting sources, data entry, simple reports, and tips and tricks. Class time will allow for general questions and answers.

Using Reunion (Mac) Instructor: Bob Goode

Track Your Ancestors through Time: U.S. Census Records
Instructor: Laura Mackinson

Class Info.: U.S. census records are a great starting point for tracing family history. You can locate your ancestors in a particular place and time from 1790 to 1940. Learn about different types of census records, the data they provide, where to find them, and how to search them.
