Office Research
In addition to serving as the society’s business center, the office contains a number of resources which may assist our members and friends in their family history research.
Film/Fiche
The society has a collection of records on microfilm, as well as some data on microfiche. There is one microfilm/fiche reader in the office for use by our office volunteers and patrons.
Reference Room
The reference room at the office serves primarily as a resource for our volunteers to work on projects and to respond to member inquiries. (The society’s main research collection is at the St. Louis County Library.) The reference room collection focuses on the St. Louis area and the surrounding counties in Missouri and Illinois, as well as general research aids and sources for selected ethnic groups of significance in St. Louis.
Reference Materials
The society owns a number of unique genealogical reference materials that are maintained in the St. Louis Genealogical Society office. These include cemetery, church and synagogue, and funeral home records, as well as a number of contributed research collections. All of these materials are available to the public at our office during our regular office hours.
Vertical Files
A unique asset of the society is its collection of archival materials housed in surname files. These are arranged by the primary surname of each family. Each file may contain a variety of items on one or more families of that surname. The index is searchable on this website by using the blue “Search” box on the home page or the Search tab in the upper right of the tab bar.
