This little country church is actually just about a half mile over the St. Louis County line in Pacific, Franklin County. Founded by German immigrants farming in the rural area, the church served as a center of social and spiritual life for hard-working families. Traveling ministers served the small congregation until they built a one-room frame church in the spring of 1879. The church was built on a hill and contained the one element required by the community, a bell to call them to worship. That building, with some additions, is still in use. The first baptism occurred in October of that year; the first marriage in January 1880 and the first death just a week later. The building has electricity but no plumbing. A nineteenth-century parsonage across the road has been modernized and serves as a hall for church functions and a place to hold Sunday school classes.
