Originally called Die Kirche zum Heiligen Kreuz [The Church of the Holy Cross], the congregation held services in the Concordia Seminary Chapel until their building was completed in 1867. Church renovations occurred in 1889 and 1896. They established a parochial school in 1914.

There was one cemetery connected to this congregation, Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Those bodies have been moved to Concordia Cemetery.
