Lessie Jean Haulcy, 1940–2018
Lessie Jean Haulcy was the third child born to the union of Willie Dee Haulcy and Neva Elizabeth (Cain) Haulcy. She was born on 11 May 1940 in Shelby, Mississippi. The family relocated to Kinloch, St. Louis County, Missouri, in 1942 when the family became members of Second Baptist Church. Lessie’s parents, a brother Dwight, and sisters Freddie Mae and Veronica Ann preceded her in death. One sister survives her along with nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Lessie graduated from Charles Sumner High School in St. Louis City, Missouri, on 11 June 1957. She trained as a laboratory technician and worked for St. Louis County Hospital and their clinics for thirty-five years until her retirement on 31 March 1995. On 17 December 1960, Lessie married Virgil Edward Hudson in the City of St. Louis. On 14 December 1985, the couple celebrated twenty-five years of marriage with a dinner party at the Heatherton Apartments Club House in Florissant, Missouri. Virgil and Lessie enjoyed traveling and visited many of the United States, Canada, and islands in the Caribbean and Atlantic. Lessie also traveled abroad. Both attended family reunions and enjoyed the casinos. Lessie and Virgil were married for almost fifty-eight years at the time of her death on 27 August 2018. Virgil expired on 8 September 2018. Funeral services were held for both at Halls Ferry Christian Church in Black Jack, Missouri, on 4 and 13 September 2018. Survivors include nieces, nephews, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
