Frances Ann (Acton) Brown was born in St. Louis, Missouri on 30 March 1859, the daughter of Edward Acton Sr. and Jane (Oakes) Acton. Her parents married about 1855 but divorced in 1883. Fannie’s father remarried sometime after 16 December 1882 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Mary Marie Hermann. Jane (Oakes) Acton never remarried and died only two months after her divorce from Edward Acton.

Fannie married John J. Brown, who, like Fannie, was of Irish descent, about 1878. This union produced at least four children: Richard F., John J., George Edward, and Jane Frances Brown. In 1920, Fannie and her husband John were living at different residences.

John J. Brown had several different occupations during his life including contractor, excavator, and real estate businessman. He died on 11 May 1923 in St. Louis, and Fannie died eight years later on 29 November 1931. Both are buried in Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum.
