If your ancestor(s) came from St. Louis before 1865, consider honoring them by joining First Families. Learn more about our program, and how you can join.

Join one of our Special Interest Groups.

Ask Louie is a service in which experienced volunteers offer advice about where to locate genealogical records for St. Louis City or St. Louis County.

2) Join a genealogical society (or two!)

Become a member of StLGS.

Consider joining a genealogical society in a town where your ancestors lived.

Contact the town’s historical society for information on local records or historical photos.
Join the town’s genealogical society to support their efforts to promote their history and to preserve their records.

 

3) Get out of your house!

Search other genealogy and history repositories.

If you are in St. Louis, take advantage of our local resources:
The Clark Branch of the St Louis County Library: Emerson History and Genealogy Center
The Mercantile Library on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus

Plan a trip to visit a town or country where your ancestors lived.

Visit a church or synagogue where your ancestor attended.
Visit the town cemetery.
Walk the streets and visit their shops.
Find an address and see the street where they lived.
