Help Preserve Veteran Bounty Land Records!
From the Revolutionary War to the Mexican-American War, the federal government granted land in lieu of pay to attract enlistments and reward service. These records, which are at the National Archives, contain valuable genealogical data. The National Genealogical Society has launched a capital campaign to raise $2.5M to preserve, index, and digitize these records and make them available to all online. St. Louis Genealogical Society heartily endorses this worthwhile effort. With little funding in Congress for records preservation, these valuable documents will continue to deteriorate without genealogists stepping up to digitize them and preserve them for the future. If you would like to donate to this campaign, Click here to DONATE. We all thank you! |
