Scandinavian Special Interest Group

S-SIG LogoThe St Louis Genealogical Society formed the Scandinavian Special Interest Group (Scand-SIG) with its focus on people with family ties to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and the Sami people. This Scand-SIG finds itself pursuing people far and wide, much like the Vikings of old, but very few in the St Louis area. These technically advanced countries have common patterns in the way they record family life data so research skills used to learn more about one country will benefit anyone in the group who is researching someone from another Scandinavian county.

Meetings


All meetings are scheduled for the St. Louis Genealogical Society office.
 

These activities may be planned months ahead of time and announced in the Society's News & Notes newsletter. An e-mail will be sent to SIG members two weeks beforehand as a reminder.  Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings.

Terry Romstad is the leader of this group. Since the group plans only five meetings a year (first Saturday of Jan, Mar, May, Sept, and Nov), you are encouraged to leave a message if you have a topic you would like to have covered or wish to present yourself at a future meeting of the SIG. He can be reached at .

Someone in the group will contact you within a couple of days. You may also call the Society office and leave a number and a preferred time of day to get back to you along with your question or input.

Research


Genealogy questions concerning Scandinavian research methodology and potential sources are handled at every meeting. Actual research of a specific family is not performed by the Scand-SIG although members often volunteer to be of short-term assistance. The StLGS does offer limited research services on a fee basis for everyone.
