French Special Interest Group

F-SIG Logo The French Special Interest Group (F-SIG) has been formed in order to assist those whose ancestors can be traced to:

  • France
  • Belgium (the French part)
  • Luxembourg
  • Switzerland (the French part)
  • Monaco
  • French Canada (Quebec, Acadia)
  • French North America (Louisiana, the Illinois Country, etc.)
  • French-speaking islands in the Caribbean
  • French Guiana in South America

All meetings are held in the main auditorium at St. Louis County Library Headquarters.

The French in St. Louis


The French were the original settlers of the St. Louis area in the eighteenth century. Pierre Laclède and August Chouteau founded what would become the city of Saint Louis in 1764.
